The March 2019 NZ workshop was everything I wanted for this trip. Mark Rayner put everything into making it work for everyone. He has such vast knowledge of all the camera brands so we each were finding out new things every day about our cameras and photography. His enthusiasm was infectious and there was lots of laughs as well as learning and I would definitely sign up for another one. Many thanks Mark. Jan from Diamond Creek

I began my photographic journey with Mark, and have come a long way since then with his expert help. He has always been willing to teach with unfailing patience, never making me feel foolish if I did not understand at first. I have enjoyed photographic trips with Trekabout in small groups. Mark’s good humour and laid back attitude always made it fun, and we developed lasting friendships on those trips. Mark is very generous with his time and has answered my occasional questions from wherever in the world he may happen to be. I have also benefited from individual lessons with Mark which have enabled me to develop at my own pace and gain greater understanding: of my cameras; of how to take better photos; of post processing in Lightroom and Photoshop. I can highly recommend Mark and Trekabout Photography.

Dorianne McGillivray

If you are after an amazing experience tutor combine with awesome destinations, your wishes will be more than rewarded. My photography style and skills have gone to the next levels with Mark’s tutoring. I fully recommend his workshops. Dorianne ( a full converted Trekkie among many)

I have travelled a fair bit of the world with Mark, on a variety of photographic adventures. His broad knowledge and relaxed and friendly manner, has seen me book with him time and time again. I plan on going on more photographic trips with him in the future. I would certainly recommend Mark and his Trekabout Photographic tours and workshops.

Robyn Lakeman

Mark runs the most awesome workshops. He is so passionate about what he does and therefore an excellent tutor. I always learn so much more on one of Mark's workshops and also we have a great time and come back with the best photos

My first contact with "Trekabout Photography Workshops" and Mark Rayner was for bird photography with him in 2016. As a result of that, my photographic knowledge, experience and results have increased 100 fold. Since that meeting I have participated in 3 more workshops, two to Africa and one to Nth Qld, all "nature" photography (my prime interest) and all "more better than excellent". As a result other friendships have been formed and the desire to enjoy ongoing photographic experience is well and truly alive. - "Trekabout Photography Workshops" are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I took their North Queensland (Atherton Highlands, Daintree etc) birding tour in October 2018, guided by Mark and Dick Jenkin. It was a superlative experience and I will look for another chance to tour with them. I recommend Trekabout Workshops without hesitation. Ihtisham Kabir

I have been on four workshops, the Red Centre, NZ, Far North Queensland and the Hunter Valley - mostly for bird photography, but I have also done a day trip to Melbourne Zoo and a LR Workshop. All have been fantastic, I have seen things and been places I would not otherwise have done, and I have learnt a great deal so my photography has improved as a result. Mark is a great tutor, very patient and generous with his time, and very considerate of the needs of his Treckies. An all round good guy! Groups are of a size where ongoing friendships can be made, and no one is left out. I would highly recommend any of his Workshops to anyone who wishes to learn in the field, and have an enjoyable time in good company.

Thank you Mark, for a fantastic Red Centre Experience 2017. I choose your Photography Workshop over two other workshops for the Red Centre as you
offered instruction in Macro, and Birds in Flight in addition to Landscape.

I was not disappointed: You introduced us to macro portraiture of geckos, snakes and lizards at the Reptile Centre Alice Springs. You gave us tips on photographing birds in flight, dingos etc., at the incomparable Alice Springs Desert Park – two full days. Plus you took us on a half day shooting flora at the Olive Pink Gardens. Early one morning, at 2.00 a.m., you taught us the basics of a star shoot as well! But my personal favourite was an unscheduled visit to shoot the sunset at the little visited Rainbow Valley.

All of this was on top of personally guided day tours taking landscapes and panoramas in a comfortable, air conditioned four wheel drive driven by yourself; a day photographing the East MacDonnell Ranges; another day photographing the West MacDonnell Ranges while based in a motel in the centre of the Alice.

Individually, we received personal tuition every moment of the workshop. You helped me set up my mirrorless Sony and got its wi fi talking to my iPad. You introduced us to esoteric mysteries such as “back button focus” and the secrets of dealing with tricky shadows by using bracketing and HDR!

While we were based for the majority of time in our comfortable motel in the heart of Alice, the best part was the three days, two nights tour photographing stunning red sand dunes and their extraordinary flora plus
Kings Canyon, Uluru at sundown, and unforgettable Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) at sunrise.

With best regards,

Having attended the Full day Mountain workshop, I have no reservations in recommending the team at Trekabout Photography. During the day both guys were approachable, and made themselves available to answers questions 1 on 1. I went to the workshop along with a friend just beginning into photography and both of us were able go away well satisfied with our day of shooting and both learnt a number of new and helpful things.

Tim Graham - Sunshine Coast

Many thanks for a fantastic weekend workshop in Lamington National Park. Thank-you for sharing your wealth of Knowledge and experience. It is obvious you both share a passion for photography and the Great Outdoors. I came home energized and excited about what I had learned. Your workshops are truly unique and I recommend them to anyone wanting to fast track their skills, or simply to associate with like minded people. Finally I have photos worthy of the wall ! Thanks Again.

Karen Palmer, The Gap

Thanks for a fantastic day on the “Mountain Experience” workshop.
The stunning location in the rainforest was a wonderful opportunity to experiment with photographic techniques and to meet other friendly people with similar interests. The small group with two tutors made it easy for me to get individual attention when I needed it. You had answers to all of my questions, as well as lots of tips and advice to help me get the most from my camera. Your workshop has inspired me to continue developing my photography skills and I look forward to being part of another in the near future.  Best wishes to you both for the continued success of Trekabout Photography.

Nadine Andersen -  Bray Park

What a fantastic experience.  I booked the Beach to Mountains to escape for the day and was curious if I could get the hang of photography.  I was so impressed I booked the Mountain Experience a week later.  Considering I had never even used a tripod and I couldn't tell you what my camera was without looking at it, I am amazed at how much I have learnt over 2 workshops.  Thank you both for your patience and advice.  I have highly recommended your workshops to anyone who will listen.  I can't wait to experience the Macro and the Wildlife now.  I take my tripod everywhere the camera goes now.

Thanks again

Just wanted to drop you both a quick line to tell you how thoroughly I have enjoyed the last five days! I am not sure I could even suggest what you guys could have done to have made it any better than it was and I want you to know that I have come away knowing a great deal more about photography than I knew at 5.30pm last Sunday. You guys should be proud of that and I know that my sentiment is shared by everyone who attended the workshop. We could not have asked for a better bunch of people to share 5 days developing our common interests and an added bonus to the skills I have learned is the friends I have made. You guys deserve a lot of credit - I know we are the paying customer, but you guys deliver in spades and your knowledge and personalities complement each other and make everyone feel very comfortable very quickly. All the best guys and rest assured, the big guy up there willing, we will meet again! Thanks heaps.

Howard Aron -  Mudjimba, QLD

As a keen photographer for a number of years, I booked on the workshop for the opportunity to spend some time outside the stressful work environment with some people that share a  common passion and interest and I  guess a quest to hone ones skills in the amazing art of photography. Not only did the leave the workshop relaxed and ready for the office environment, but I also unexpectedly took home a lot more knowledge and skills.

Pamela Handyside - Canberra, ACT

The “5-Day Mountain Experience Workshop” was fantastic. What a way to learn new photography skills – with two totally dedicated tutors who devote 100% of their time to teaching all levels of skill to every one in the group and are freely giving of their vast knowledge and enthusiasm for photography, nature and wildlife. The workshop was an invaluable learning experience and I learnt more during this workshop than I have on all previous courses and workshops combined! It all now makes sense and my camera skills have been taken to a much higher level. I

Thank you for a wonderful, informative 5 full days. I feel I have learnt a lot and understand my camera and settings so much more . It was a most enjoyable time meeting like-minded people all so keen to learn.
Thank you both once again.  I would recommend your workshops any time.

Anne Nelson - Tugan

A belated thank you to both of you for an inspiring “mountain experience” workshop. I certainly came away with a renewed outlook on this wonderful thing called photography. A greater knowledge of technique and an insight to the dedication you both show in what you do ,the time and effort spent capturing that special moment. I would also add that we had a wonderful group of people ,many laughs and happy memories .
I wish you both the very best for the future .

Bob Oscar - Glenmore Park, NSW.

I’ve been thinking about the 5 day Mountain Experience Workshop and wanted to summarise my experience from the week.  I wanted a break from my working routine and an opportunity to clear my head and immerse myself in my interests of photography and bushwalking.  From day one, the wonderful environment of O’Reilly’s and Lamington National Park got me hook line and sinker.  Then to mix it up with a bunch of fantastic people who were also passionate about their photography was just outstanding.  For me, the 5 Day Mountain Experience Workshop program hit all the points and I learnt a lot about my camera and photography techniques and tricks.  Your significant efforts throughout the week provided a great learning environment and created a lot of good memories (and some great photos too).  To top it off, after catching up with my wife after the course she told me I looked younger (maybe you should include this as a learning outcome), so I’m already planning a return trip.  All the very best to you both, and to the gang who were the Sept 09 5 Day Mountain Experience Workshop.

Ann Gooley - Wynnum

Thank you for a wonderful photography experience, 5 days on the mountain learning a new hobby was great, and  what a lovely group we  had, so lucky.
As a new photographer with a brand new SLR camera I needed all the help I could get and both yourself and Mark were great with the patience of saints.  I got some really nice shots of some of the lovely birds, also some very fuzzy birds in flight.  Still a bit to learn in that area which tells me I need more photo workshops and lots more practice but I will get there.

Thanks again for a great workshop and I hope to meet up again someday soon.

Andrew Raguse - Moranbah - QLD

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for a great week. Although the weather was unkind to us, I certainly learnt a great deal about what my camera and equipment has to offer and how to put it into practice. You are both very passionate when it comes to photography, and this makes it easier to learn when passionate people like yourselves are teaching what you enjoy. I would certainly recommend it to anyone that would like to attend a workshop and look forward to when we meet again. Thanks for a great workshop.

Garth Thomas -  Coorparoo, QLD

The 5 day workshop at O'Reilly's was my second Trekabout workshop. The first workshop had significantly improved my camera skills and I was hopeful the experience would be even better with a longer workshop. I was not disappointed. I am convinced that my skills have taken another leap forward. The longer workshop provided an opportunity to learn and consolidate new skills, and spend a relaxing week in a marvellous location.

Terry O'Brien -  Dalby

Placing pen to paper (so to speak) to say what a great time I had at your 5 day workshop. O'Reilly's will be a return journey for photography in 2010. I learnt so much about my camera, I cannot thank you both enough. These workshops are assisting in my digital photography knowledge, and I feel that it is all coming together. All the best to everyone

Sue Kearns - Armadale - VIC

The workshop on Saturday exceeded my expectations.  With the one on one tuition I now know have a much better understanding of my camera's capabilities and much more confidence in my ability to capture life's special memories on disk.

Bill Woolley - Gold Coast

I would like to thank you both for the time you have taken not only to teach me a lot about my camera but also about photography. It is both fantastic and rewarding to spend time with two guys who have such a passion not only about photography but with nature itself. I have now attended the "Weekend Mountain Experience" and the "Brisbane Wildlife Experience", as you know I have booked in for the "Portraiture Course" and can't wait to book in for the "Beach to Mountain" Experience, I find you both very easy to communicate with. On previous courses I have attended, the facilitators spoke way above the level of my expertise. You are both friendly, down to earth all round fantastic guys. If anyone is thinking about doing photography course, don't waste your time looking any further.  You won't regret spending the time or money with these guys.
Look forward to seeing you soon.

Julie Geldard - Jules Art Designs

I really enjoyed the macro experience workshop.  I found so many features of my cameras which I was not sure about. I felt impressed that you took time to help me get the shot of the lovely  movie star frog. You are both great with people as well as knowledge.
Thanks heaps

Sam R, Narangba

The Beach to Mountain Experience was fantastic.  I can't think of a better way to spend the day than going from one beautiful location to the next & getting the opportunity to take fabulous photographs.  The things you learn on these treks are invaluable & add to the overall photography experience & leave you wanting to go again!' Thanks

Keith C, Carindale

Both the "Mountain Experience" and the "Beach to Mountains" workshops were great photographic learning experiences. It was so good to work in a small group with expert instructors. It was like having a personal coach at my side to guide my photography. And I've got some great photos to prove it. I'm already thinking about another Trekabout workshop to refine my skills.

Stuart M, Caloundra

Thank you for your great photo workshop.  I have now completed 2 workshops and can highly recommend them to any beginner to advanced photographer.  It is great to be able to ask the question to people who really can explain how to do in a way that anyone will understand. I can’t wait for my next workshop.
