Arrival into Juan Santamaria International Airport, San José, Costa Rica. Our guide will meet and greet you, and will introduce your local driver who will accompany during the whole itinerary. Then you will be transferred to Santo Domingo in the Heredia province in order to proceed with the check-in.

Depending on your arrival time, you will have free time for walk around the hotel botanical gardens.

Early in the morning after breakfast, you will depart from the Central Valley to the Tortuguero area. On the way, you will pass through the Braulio Carrillo National Park, a flora and fauna sanctuary covered by an emerald-green mass of vegetation. Besides, you will have the chance to see from the comfort of the bus, open pasture lands, small farming towns, and will also notice a change in the climate, as it becomes a bit warmer and humid but very pleasant.

The journey will continue to the embarking point deeper into our Caribbean side, where the boats are waiting to transfer you to the lodge. A two-hour boat ride, will take you through the canals sheltered in the jungle of the rain forest. From the boat, you will be able to admire the unique flora and fauna of this area. On the way to the lodge, you will have the chance to see different birds.

Upon arrival, there will be a short briefing of the lodge and the activities included during your stay, followed by lunch.

07 November 2017 TORTUGUERO

Tortuguero is a great place for ecotourism lovers. During this day you can explore the secondary canals of this paradisiacal place, where you can see different species of mammals, birds and reptiles. Tortuguero offers a full contact with Mother Nature. Much of the National Park extends along its unspoiled beaches that serve as refuge for spawning of the sea turtles, this event occurs between the months of July to September. After this tour, you will return to the lodge for a delicious breakfast.

In the afternoon, you will visit the village of Tortuguero where you will learn the lifestyle of local residents and the significant conservation efforts that some NGOs have developed to protect the sea turtles that come to spawn each year along the 22 miles of the protected coastline.

Breakfast at the hotel. At mid-morning, the journey continues with a boat transfer back to the disembarking point in Caño Blanco or Pavona. Upon arrival, we will travel to the area of Guapiles, where lunch will be served. Afterwards, continue towards to Turrialba area. On the way to Turrialba you will visit Hacienda Tayutic. The views are astonishing. This goes along perfect with the higher elevation cool mountain breezes.

09 November 2017 TURRIALBA - SAVEGRE

Today we will explore the Orosi valley, and the Tapanti National Park. Set at an altitude of 4000 to 7000ft (1212m to 2121m) this beautiful National park is not only an excellent birding site but also has stunning views of water falls and over 100 rivers! Specialty birds include Bat Falcon, Ornate Hawk-Eagle, Ochraceous Pewee, Silvery-fronted Tapaculo, Black Guan, White-bellied Mountain-gem, Collared Trogon, Prong-billed and Red-headed Barbets, Golden-bellied Flycatcher, Torrent Tyrannulet, and Spangle-cheeked.

Then we will continue for approx 3 ½ hours up to San Gerardo de Dota area. We are going to stay for the following two nights at Savegre Lodge.

10 November 2017 SAN GERARDO DE DOTA

Located in the cool highlands of the Talamanca Mountains, the emerald valley of San Gerardo de Dota is one of Costa Rica’s best-kept secrets. Day time temperatures hover around 70°F and anglers can cast a line for plump rainbow trout in the frothy waters along the high-elevation Savegre River. Magnificent landscapes, the quiet town is also a birdwatching paradise, boasting over 200 avian species, including the elusive resplendent quetzal and a dazzling array of hummingbirds.

Los Quetzales National Park has three types of rainforest, and fourteen different ecosystems. Set at a high altitude (between 2,000-3,000 meters) along the Talamancan mountain range, much of the park is covered in cloud forest and protects a crucial habitat for several plant and animal species.

Early in the morning we will leave San Gerardo, crossing the valley of San Isidro del General, to take the route to Palmar Sur – Sierpe where we are going to board a boat to begin the adventure to the Corcovado National Park area.

Once in the boat we will navigate across the Sierpe river the biggest wetland in Costa Rica, then we will get into the Pacific Ocean, bordering amazing beaches until we arrive to Drake Bay, specifically to Aguila de Osa Inn.

12 & 13 November 2017 THE OSA PENINSULA

During these two days, you will experience some unforgettable excursions, a unique experience that only is possible to live in the Osa Peninsula. The main feature of the Osa Peninsula is Corcovado National Park. This wildlife preserve occupies about a third of the peninsula, and this is known for being one of the largest and most pristine parks in Costa Rica, home of the 3% of the world’s biodiversity.

The second amazing experience will be snorkelling at the Cano Island. It is a small island in the Bahia de Corcovado (Corcovado Bay), in Costa Rica. It is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors for its beaches, coral beds, and sea life. Marine life includes manta rays, dolphins, sea turtles, whales, and a wide variety of fish. Evidence of pre-Columbian human activity on the island is substantial, with some of the most interesting artefacts being stone spheres evidently carved by early civilizations.

Today morning is the last chance to explore a little the area before going back to the Sierpe river. Once you arrive to the local dock in Sierpe, the ground transportation will take you to the Palmar Sur airstrip. Here you will take a domestic flight back to San Jose, where a private transportation will be waiting for you to take you to the Bougainvillea Hotel, to stay your last night in San Jose.

Before this, you will enjoy a delicious typical lunch at the Freddo Fresas Restaurant where you can enjoy also some free time at their hummingbird gallery.

15 November 2017 DEPARTURE DAY

Per your flight information you will be transferred to the Juan Santamaria International Airport to take your flight back home.
